The Department of Psychology's History, Quantitative & Theoretical division unites faculty who critically examine Psychology's theoretical and methodological roots. This specialization aligns with one Canadian Psychological Association section (History and Philosophy of Psychology) and five American Psychological Association divisions (Division 1 - General Psychology; Division 3 - Experimental Psychology; Division 5 - Evaluation, Measurement, and Statistics; Division 24 - Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology; and Division 26 - History). It addresses Psychology's core disciplinary identity, providing the theoretical and methodological framework that unites diverse specializations like Forensic Psychology, Neuropsychology, and Social Psychology within one department. Without this unifying foundation, these specialized fields might otherwise merge with disciplines like Criminology, Biological Sciences, or Sociology.
