Develop comprehensive expertise in chemistry and apply your skills to address environmental challenges. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared to analyze chemical processes in nature, evaluate environmental risks from contaminants, and employ both qualitative and quantitative methods for environmental assessments. Our specialized program offers an optional co-op component, providing 12 months of paid professional experience and valuable industry networking opportunities before you complete your studies. The first year establishes core principles across multiple disciplines including biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and environmental science, followed by building essential chemistry competencies while taking focused environmental chemistry courses. In your final year, you'll conduct original research through a supervised project. This major combines theoretical understanding with hands-on laboratory training throughout the curriculum, while allowing you to pair your studies with other major or minor programs. You'll explore key chemistry domains with special attention to analytical, environmental, inorganic, and organic chemistry, while establishing a solid grounding in environmental sciences.
The Chemical Institute of Canada has accredited this program, acknowledging its robust laboratory curriculum and exceptional experiential learning components for students.
