The Women's and Gender Studies program at the University of Toronto Scarborough takes an interdisciplinary approach to examining how gender intersects with race, sexuality, class, age, ability, nationality, and other power dynamics that influence social and cultural disparities. Students can enroll in undergraduate Major, Major (Co-op), or Minor programs within a stimulating and nurturing academic setting. These programs bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application, exposing learners to diverse scholarly viewpoints while encouraging active participation in promoting equity within communities and personal spheres.
Our distinctive educational approach combines feminist pedagogy with cutting-edge curriculum, empowering students to critically analyze systems of power, oppression, and inequity. This fosters the development of analytical frameworks and communication skills necessary to challenge societal norms. Coursework spans diverse subjects including women's historical and contemporary roles across various sectors, gender representation in media and arts, workplace dynamics, intersectional feminism, LGBTQ+ movements, anti-racist feminism, and cross-cultural examinations of gender and sexuality. The program's interdisciplinary nature provides valuable foundations for careers spanning humanities, social sciences, STEM fields, and beyond. Graduates gain expertise in critical analysis, innovative problem-solving, research methodologies, persuasive communication, and community collaboration - skills applicable to professions in education, media, social services, governance, legal fields, corporate sectors, policy development, and social justice initiatives.
