The department provides Master of Science (M.Sc.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), and Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree options, along with a Postgraduate Diploma (P.G.D.) program. M.Sc. and Ph.D. candidates undertake both coursework and research projects, whereas P.G.D. students focus solely on coursework. Every graduate program requires faculty supervision. Currently, around 80 graduate students are enrolled, with roughly 50% pursuing Ph.D. studies.
The department hosts Canada Research Chairs specializing in Nanoengineering Coating Technologies as well as Energy and Advanced Materials. Its state-of-the-art laboratories feature some of Canada's finest research equipment. Additional research takes place across campus at facilities like the Saskatchewan Structural Sciences Centre and the Canadian Light Source, the country's premier synchrotron research institution.
A Master's degree, or equivalent, from a recognized university in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study.
A cumulative weighted average of at least 70% (USask grade system equivalent) in the Master's degree.
Demonstrated ability for independent thought, advanced study, and research.
