The Urban Design Certificate equips students with knowledge about how design principles, visual arts, and constructed environments intersect with the social and spatial factors shaping urban areas. More than 50% of the program features studio-based instruction, fostering hands-on learning that combines practical experience, theoretical concepts, and skill development through creative projects.
This certificate program is administered by the University of Saskatchewan's College of Arts and Science. Students can pursue it as a standalone qualification, alongside a degree program, or after completing an undergraduate degree from USask or another accredited university.
Participants will develop expertise in employing human-centered design methodologies for urban planning. The curriculum focuses on building competencies in visual arts, urban development strategies, and collaborative place-making, while working in teams to address authentic urban design problems—deepening their comprehension of how cities evolve and influence communities.
