Urban planners harmonize scientific principles, design aesthetics, and community needs when developing sustainable urban, rural, and regional spaces. They collaborate with residents, developers, and government representatives to shape environments that effectively utilize or protect society's ecological, economic, social, cultural, and infrastructural resources.
The curriculum explores contemporary urban growth challenges and cutting-edge advancements in planning strategies and designs. Key study areas encompass: technology-integrated land-use planning, sustainable transportation systems, climate adaptation measures, energy efficiency initiatives, water resource protection, and natural habitat conservation. The program covers essential skills like community participation, policy evaluation, governmental procedures, economic principles, planning legislation, geospatial technologies, and dispute mediation.
Prospective Honours students should meet with departmental advisors prior to second-year registration. For the B.A. program, no single subject may exceed 60 credit units, and of the 120 credits needed for graduation, a minimum of 66 must be upper-level courses.
