The English Department at the University of Regina is a mid-sized academic unit providing diverse courses and research options across English, American, Indigenous, and Canadian literary studies. Its moderate enrollment fosters vibrant peer discussions while maintaining personalized faculty access often unavailable at larger universities. The department presents three MA pathways: a 10-course program for broad literary exposure, a 7-course plus project option, and a 5-course plus thesis track for specialized research. As the department's terminal degree, the MA program emphasizes close mentorship, with particular focus on guiding project and thesis work. These programs effectively prepare graduates for doctoral studies or English-related professions. Additionally, the department features an MA in Creative Writing with two formats: a thesis version (5 courses plus creative work with critical analysis) and a project version (7 courses with creative project). Prospective students should reach out to the Graduate Chair for specific information.
Students must have completed a 4-year undergraduate degree and additionally have an overall grade point average of 75%. Applicants must have successfully completed ENGL 399 or an equivalent course in Literary Theory.
