Examining the roots and evolution of systems and concepts, disputes and clashes, cultures and civilizations enhances our societal understanding and offers valuable perspectives into others' viewpoints, enabling wiser choices about future directions.
Learning history equips students with versatile abilities that prove invaluable in today's changing employment landscape. History scholars become skilled investigators, adept at sourcing information and presenting their findings with precision and assurance. UPEI's History program sharpens students' capacity to analyze evidence and expert views, examine causes and effects, and establishes a basis for crafting real-world answers to modern challenges. Our History alumni thrive in fields like heritage preservation, legal practice, media, teaching, healthcare, community support, policy research, commerce, public relations, and digital data organization.
UPEI's History faculty consists of distinguished teachers and scholars with diverse historical specialties. Our curriculum spans from PEI's regional past to worldwide discovery narratives; from ancient times through medieval periods to modern eras; covering subjects like warfare's societal effects, scientific and medical advancements, and evolving gender dynamics. The Public History course allows students to acquire hands-on training through placements in governmental, heritage, and cultural institutions.
