Exploring History is crucial for comprehending our current world. It presents diverse perspectives on how modern society evolved and highlights contrasts between past civilizations and today's world. UTSC's History programs deliver an engaging overview of worldwide changes across the last two thousand years, with special attention to how everyday individuals influenced these shifts. Our courses examine global histories through intricate international relationships, addressing subjects like daily existence, colonial impacts, gender dynamics, labor history, religious developments, ecological changes, city growth, intellectual movements, migration patterns, racial identities, and cultural artifacts. Historical discoveries rely on meticulous analysis of concrete proof—whether documents, visuals, or artifacts—and our programs stress essential analytical, investigative, and writing abilities valuable for historical research and various career paths. As a flexible, cross-disciplinary field, History connects with numerous other disciplines such as Classics, Global Asian Studies, African Studies, Gender Studies, and Food Studies, while also enriching studies in Political Science, Philosophy, Literature, Arts, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, and Geography.
The History Specialist (Co-op) Program merges academic learning with paid professional experiences across government, business, and nonprofit organizations. This Work Integrated Learning initiative helps students cultivate both scholarly and practical skills for immediate employment or advanced studies in History-related fields after graduation.
Beyond standard coursework, participants must complete supplementary Arts & Science Co-op preparatory classes and at least two Co-op work placements.
