The Bachelor of Applied Arts in Journalism is a collaborative degree program jointly provided by the University of Prince Edward Island and Holland College. Participants gain hands-on journalism training and practical skills (mainly through Holland College coursework) while also developing broad knowledge, subject expertise, and abilities in research, analytical thinking, and problem-solving characteristic of liberal arts education (primarily through UPEI studies).
The typical study path involves one initial year at the University, followed by two years in Holland College's Journalism diploma program, concluding with a final year back at the University. This culminating year often incorporates journalism writing opportunities either on campus or coordinated through Holland College. Alternative study sequences between the institutions are allowed, provided students complete at least five courses (15 semester hours) after obtaining their Holland College diploma.
