The two-year interdisciplinary Diploma in Communications, Culture, and Journalism Studies (CCJS) critically examines mass media as modern society's dominant force for political and cultural change. This program investigates the societal, political, and economic roles of news and media, journalism's historical development, and cultural policy & theory. Special focus is given to social justice issues and the examination of identity through lenses of gender, race, class, sexuality, and nationality. Based in the Communications Department, CCJS provides core media theory courses, writing-focused Communications and English classes, and diverse electives from departments like Anthropology, History, Philosophy, and more. Graduates may pursue careers in communications, journalism, PR, or digital media, particularly in niche markets, though the program primarily prepares students for advanced liberal arts education. The curriculum investigates meaning-making across media platforms while exploring communication's role in personal and societal development, analyzing how modern messaging shapes understandings of identity and social structures.
