The University of Ottawa's French-language Master of Health Science in Occupational Therapy program aims to educate skilled healthcare practitioners who can meet the needs of Ontario's Francophone communities, as well as French-speaking populations across Canada's bilingual and multilingual landscape.
Occupational therapy combines scientific knowledge with compassionate practice, focusing on preventing disability situations while restoring and enhancing daily activities, health, and overall wellness. Practitioners collaborate with individuals or groups to overcome challenges in performing essential tasks, whether caused by health conditions, developmental delays, environmental barriers, or aging. These challenges may affect personal care, work responsibilities, or recreational pursuits. Through their work, occupational therapists help clients rebuild their lives and regain autonomy and self-confidence.
The curriculum aligns with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) guidelines, ensuring graduates acquire the necessary professional skills. Alongside academic studies, students complete 1,000 hours of mandatory fieldwork in various settings, including Ottawa hospitals, educational institutions, community agencies, the university's interprofessional clinic, rehabilitation centers, or locations beyond the National Capital Region.
