The School of International Development and Global Studies (SIDGS) provides multidisciplinary graduate programs, including a Master of Arts (MA) in International Development and Globalization and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International Development.
The MA program is jointly administered with the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Law (covering both common law and civil law), and the Faculty of Social Sciences, featuring an optional co-op component.
SIDGS delivers a comprehensive MA curriculum that introduces students to diverse perspectives on development theory, policy implementation, and practical applications, while allowing focus in one of four specialized areas: Conflict, Transitions and Peace; Growth, Private Sector and Social Inclusion; Livelihoods, Resources and Sustainability; or Social Movements, Equity and Human Rights. Participants gain practical experience through Co-op placements and global internships, along with opportunities to connect with development policy experts and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Canada's capital region.
Core program courses are available annually in both English and French. Elective courses may be taught in either language; prospective students should confirm the language of instruction with the respective academic department.
