Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) involves developing skills to understand and regulate emotions, show empathy towards others, build healthy relationships, make thoughtful choices, and navigate difficult circumstances successfully. Essentially, SEL skills form the core abilities needed for maintaining wellbeing, fostering social connections, being an active community member, and achieving academic goals. Often referred to as the overlooked component, SEL highlights an educational aspect deeply connected to student achievement that has only recently gained proper recognition. The SEL approach promotes hands-on learning methods where abilities can be applied across subjects and real-life situations through consistent practice of techniques that encourage constructive mindsets, actions, and cognitive patterns.
