In a world where social and environmental landscapes are continuously evolving, anthropology provides fresh analytical viewpoints by revealing the links between local and global challenges. Ethnography, the field's primary research approach, enables real-time documentation of intricate phenomena across various domains including healthcare, ecology, minority groups, media, and indigenous cultures. Students of anthropology can acquire direct experience by conducting field studies worldwide, observing and interpreting modern societal concerns.
The School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies provides a Master of Arts in anthropology, available both full-time and part-time in French and English. For English programs, annual admission limits are set as outlined in the Admission Requirements.
The master's program offers two pathways: thesis-based or research paper-based. Eligible candidates can apply to incorporate the co-op option into their studies.
Students who have a BA with honours or major in anthropology or in another equivalent discipline with a minimum average of 70% (B), calculated in accordance with graduate studies guidelines, may be admitted to the MA program.
Students who have an honours BA with a minimum average of 70% (B) in another discipline, calculated in accordance with graduate studies guidelines, but are considered to have an insufficient academic background may be accepted into a qualifying program, requiring them to complete a maximum of eight courses.
