The School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies provides these academic programs: Master of Arts (MA) and PhD in sociology, along with a Master of Arts (MA) in anthropology. The School also contributes to these joint initiatives: women's studies at the master's level and Canadian studies at the doctoral level.

The sociology MA program is available both full-time and part-time, with instruction in French and English. For English admissions, yearly intake limits follow the guidelines outlined in the "Admission Requirements" section. Following University of Ottawa policy, students can complete assignments, research papers, theses, and exams in either English or French.

The master's program features two pathways: the thesis-based MA and the research paper MA, with an optional co-op component available to qualified students. Both pathways allow participation in the women's studies collaborative program. Additional details can be found in the "Apply for Admission" section.

The sociology PhD is exclusively a full-time program offered in English and French, though mandatory seminars are conducted solely in French. This doctoral program prepares sociologists to investigate social dynamics shaping modern societies, employing current theoretical and methodological approaches. Its primary research focuses include minority studies, cultural analysis, and political sociology.
