The School of Psychology provides advanced degree programs culminating in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Arts (M.A.) in Experimental Psychology. The PhD program features specialized tracks in Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychology, with concentrations recognized by the Ontario Council on Graduate Studies including:
Clinical Psychology, Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Cognition, and Behavioural Neurosciences
This program aims to cultivate research expertise in experimental psychology, focusing on specialized domains such as: neurophysiology of behavior, pharmacological psychology, psychobiological processes, cognitive studies in humans and animals, language acquisition, sleep research, social and emotional growth, perceptual systems, group dynamics, motivational psychology, and health/workplace social psychology.
The clinical psychology track holds full accreditation from the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA). This comprehensive program delivers doctoral-level education in clinical psychology, equipping students to practice with diverse populations including adults, children, adolescents, and families. An optional specialization in Child and Family Psychological Services is available.
Clinical training encompasses multiple therapeutic modalities including cognitive-behavioral, experiential, interpersonal, systemic, and community-based approaches. Faculty mentors in the clinical program possess research expertise across various mental health domains, including: mood and anxiety disorders; pediatric ADHD; childhood behavioral challenges and family dynamics; trauma across the lifespan; therapeutic processes; relationship dynamics and couples counseling; human sexuality; chronic illness adaptation; legal psychology; community interventions; program assessment; and digital mental health applications.
