The University of Alberta's Department of Psychiatry provides exceptional graduate study options for both Master's and PhD candidates. Students from diverse academic backgrounds are welcome to apply, including those with undergraduate degrees in biochemistry, neuroscience, psychology, or medical fields. While the program doesn't include clinical training, it focuses on advanced research in fundamental and applied sciences related to psychiatric studies. Both part-time and full-time study options are available for the MSc/PhD program. The department creates excellent opportunities for advanced academic pursuits at all graduate levels.
The Department's minimum admission requirements are an undergraduate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.2 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution. The admission GPA will be calculated on the last 60 of graded coursework completed, or on the equivalent of the last two years of full-time graded coursework.
For International students, the application deadlines are April 1 for Fall term, August 1 for Winter term, November 1 for Spring term and January 1 for Summer term.
