The French Department provides graduate studies culminating in Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees in French Literature (with either dissertation or thesis options) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in French Literature.

Additionally, the Department collaborates with multiple interdisciplinary programs: Women's Studies (Master's level), Medieval and Renaissance Studies (Master's level), and Canadian Studies (Doctoral level), enabling students to gain expertise in these specialized areas.

All candidates must hold a Master of Arts in French Literature or the equivalent obtained with a minimum grade of 75% (B+).

The candidate wishing to write a doctoral thesis in creative writing must have defended a master's thesis in creative writing, or the equivalent, or present a file attesting to the production of texts deemed equivalent to the master's thesis in French literature with a profile in creation.
