Politics permeates every aspect of modern society. The field of political science aims to examine, interpret, comprehend, and evaluate the foundational concepts and dynamics of power that shape communal existence. This discipline explores both the organizational frameworks that establish these power dynamics and the ideologies and actions that sustain them. It investigates all factors impacting political systems and structures - including belief systems, collective organizations, societal initiatives - across local, national, and global contexts.
Our curriculum provides comprehensive education in political science while fostering thoughtful analysis of crucial topics such as civic engagement, cultural identity, democratic involvement, worldwide integration and progress, state administration, moral principles in governance, and democratic systems. As an interdisciplinary subject embracing diverse theoretical and research methodologies, political science maintains continuous dialogue with other academic domains. At the University of Ottawa's School of Political Studies, students develop expertise across four specialized areas: political philosophy, Canadian and Quebec government systems, cross-national political analysis, and international affairs with global governance.
