The Bachelor of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries program at UNBC is offered through the Ecosystem Science and Management Department, standing as one of Canada's rare specialized degrees in this field.
This program equips students with comprehensive knowledge in wildlife and fisheries biology through extensive laboratory work, both indoors and outdoors. Students learn to address contemporary resource challenges using interdisciplinary methods. Graduates emerge with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, preparing them for advanced academic pursuits or immediate entry into Wildlife or Fisheries careers.
Build expertise in wildlife and fisheries biology while mastering holistic solutions for modern conservation challenges. The curriculum blends classroom learning with practical lab work, creating pathways for graduate studies or careers in government and private-sector wildlife and fisheries roles.
During your initial two years, you'll study:
natural resource management
chemistry and ecology
biological sciences and genetics
physics and soil science
forest ecosystems and botany
Advanced years explore diverse subjects including:
bird and mammal studies
wildlife health and parasitology
environmental assessment techniques
professional ethics
Indigenous approaches to resource stewardship
ecosystem and water resource management
Entry requirements may vary from country to country, Students who complete their studies at an appropriate high school and/or recognized post-secondary institution will be considered for admission.
English language requirement:
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 90 or higher in the internet-based test, with not less than 20 in each of the Reading, Listening, Writing or Speaking components; score of at least 230 in the computer-based test or at least 570 in the paper-based test.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic score of at least 6.5 overall, with not less than 6.0 in any of the four modules;
Duolingo English Test score of 105 or higher;
MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) score of at least 80, with a minimum of 3 on the Speaking Rating Scale;
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) or the CAEL CE (Computer Edition) Assessment score of at least 70, with no subtest below 60;
A grade of B or better on Cambridge English Qualification C1 Advanced;
PTE (Pearson Test of English - Academic): overall score of 65, with not less than 60 in each of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
