The MA Economics Program offers two distinct pathways: (i) the Research-Based Stream (RBS) and (ii) the Course-Based Stream (CBS). The RBS requires completion of eight single-term graduate courses plus a Master's Report, whereas the CBS involves ten graduate courses, including one research-focused elective. Applicants must indicate their preferred stream during the application process, though students may later request a switch between streams depending on academic achievements.

Participation in the Co-op program is entirely optional and not mandatory for degree completion. Both research-based and course-based students can enroll in Co-op to gain practical work experience alongside their academic studies.

At the heart of the MA program lies a foundational curriculum covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. Students can also choose from specialized courses in areas like regional economic development, transportation economics, environmental economics, health economics, industrial organization, public policy, and applied econometrics. Both RBS and CBS students can opt for either a one-year or two-year program structure.

Duration: One to two years (with an additional term required for Co-op participation)
Start Dates: Fall term (Winter admission may be possible under exceptional circumstances - please consult the Department for details)
