The Master of Arts in Applied Economics (MAE) program at the University of Winnipeg explores these key economic questions. As an MAE student, you'll develop expertise in economic analysis and learn to apply these skills to current policy challenges both in Canada and internationally. The curriculum covers how economic principles shape policies across diverse sectors such as healthcare, environmental regulation, poverty reduction, labor markets, and financial systems.
There's increasing need for skilled economists who possess robust analytical capabilities and hands-on policy experience. The MAE program directly addresses this workforce demand across government agencies, private companies, and nonprofit organizations. Typically completed within twelve months, the program offers both a general track and specialized concentrations in either Policy Analysis or Environmental, Resource and Development Economics.
An undergraduate degree in Economics with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0. Students typically enter the MAE program having already taken Advanced Microeconomics, Advanced Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Calculus and Statistics as part of their undergraduate degree. Applicants without sufficient background in economics may be admitted to a Qualifying Year. The Economics Department will assess degrees earned outside Canada to determine their equivalency.
