Established in 1854, UNB's Civil Engineering department boasts a rich legacy. Our graduate program has equipped countless students with the engineering expertise needed to design, develop, and oversee critical infrastructure for contemporary communities.
Whether focusing on transportation networks, structural projects, environmental systems, or sustainable construction, UNB prepares graduates for rewarding careers with engineering firms, non-governmental organizations, government bodies, and research institutions worldwide.
The PhD program emphasizes original research, requiring candidates to produce a substantive thesis contributing to civil engineering knowledge. Applicants typically hold a graduate degree in engineering or applied sciences. PhD candidates must demonstrate academic excellence through maintaining high grades and successfully completing a Comprehensive Examination within their first year, as evaluated by their doctoral committee.
Program Length (full-time): 1-2 years (MEng); 2 years (MScE); 3-4 years (PhD).
Admission Periods: Fall/Winter for MEng; Fall/Winter/Summer for MScE and PhD.
