We aim to bridge science, engineering, and medicine through interdisciplinary collaboration, enhancing healthcare while providing students with exceptional educational opportunities. Our program equips students with core knowledge in these fields, preparing them to translate laboratory research into real-world medical applications and incorporate clinical observations back into scientific inquiry. The Biomedical Engineering PhD program combines academic study with extensive research, requiring at least 12 credits of advanced coursework. Engineering students typically complete anatomy and physiology requirements, while science-track students are exempt. All candidates must participate in research seminars, sharing their work and learning from peers. Beyond coursework, students must develop, present, and defend an original thesis that advances their specialized field of study.
Qualification for admission to the PhD in Biomedical Engineering program is contingent on first receiving tentative acceptance from a faculty advisor who will accept you into their research group.
To qualify for admission to the PhD in Biomedical Engineering program, you must normally have completed a master's-level degree from a faculty of engineering, health sciences or science or a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from a recognized university.
In addition, the following pre-requisite courses are required prior to an offer of admission:
MATH 1210: Linear Algebra
MATH 1510: Calculus 01
PHYS 1050: Physics 01
Individual research groups and programs may require additional degrees, credentials, pre-requisites and/or more specific degree requirements.
