The ECE department specializes in pioneering biomedical technology research with significant potential to transform healthcare and enhance quality of life. Through engineering approaches, we create innovative devices, algorithms, and systems to advance disease detection, therapy, and healthcare services.
Our research encompasses everything from microscopic tools for fundamental science and pharmaceutical development to clinical implementations. These cross-disciplinary initiatives, bridging engineering, biological sciences, and medicine, involve microsystems for cellular manipulation, optical technologies for tissue imaging, medical image processing techniques, and robotic medical devices. Close partnerships with the Faculty of Medicine, ICORD, BC Cancer Research Agency, biomedical device manufacturers, and other institutions motivate our department to tackle emerging challenges in biomedical technology innovation.
