The MA program features two pathways – a thesis track and a course-based option culminating in a major research paper (MRP). The thesis pathway spans six semesters, while the MRP option requires three semesters. Both routes equip students with foundational expertise in Art History and Visual Culture through an interdisciplinary research framework, preparing them for advanced academic pursuits or diverse professional opportunities in sectors like art publishing, museum/gallery operations, or public sector roles.
For the thesis pathway, participants must fulfill three mandatory courses and select one elective from the provided options, which may include an approved graduate-level course from another Arts program.
Thesis candidates will produce a substantial research work of 30,000-35,000 words, present at a public colloquium, and undergo an oral defense. This process requires students to demonstrate professional-level presentation skills expected of practicing art historians during their public defense.
