The University of Guelph's Psychology Department features a specialized Applied Social Psychology (ASP) program tailored for students pursuing research careers in various academic and professional environments. With a focus on social justice, our ASP concentration is ideal for those interested in examining societal issues and dynamics across diverse domains such as healthcare, gender studies, conflict resolution, discrimination, social disparities, collaborative behavior, cultural studies, migration, group interactions, and technological impacts. Our psychology graduate programs include both MA and PhD options in Applied Social Psychology. The Master's program involves coursework in social psychology applications and research methods, along with practical experience and a thesis project. MA candidates are expected to continue toward doctoral studies. The PhD program entails comprehensive exams, advanced coursework, and an original dissertation.

Qualification Requirements

Students must have completed Masters requirements in the appropriate field of study (Neuroscience and Applied Cognitive Science, Applied Social Psychology, Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology) with a minimum 'A-' standing to be eligible for admission to the PhD program. These Masters requirements are normally met within the department in a two-year course of studies comprising specified course work and a thesis. Students admitted to the PhD program who have completed MA or MSc degrees in other fields of study and/or from other universities may be required to take Masters level courses and complete clinical practica to ensure adequate background preparation for PhD work. International English Language Testing System (Academic) (IELTS) 6.5 , Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and (TOEFL Special Home Edition (iBT)) 89 A minimum score of 21 must be achieved in each of the four categories (listening, speaking, reading, writing)
