The doctoral program provides specialization options in: 1) biomechanics; 2) nutrition, physical activity and metabolic processes; and 3) nutritional and nutraceutical studies. This program emphasizes how exercise and dietary choices serve as key lifestyle factors influencing wellness. Genetic predispositions combined with external influences shape human health, with lifestyle representing a significant environmental element.
Our graduate curriculum delivers hands-on learning opportunities across nutritional sciences, nutraceuticals, exercise physiology, and biomechanics, all centered on the interplay between lifestyle, genetics, and wellbeing. The Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences concentrates on individual-level investigations rather than group or population studies. Research initiatives target fundamental biological mechanisms of health, with applications to aging processes, neurological/sensory conditions, joint degeneration, and persistent illnesses including cancer, heart disease, weight-related disorders, and diabetes.
