UFV's School and Community Support Worker program equips students for roles as educational aides in schools or community support professionals. Participants gain essential competencies to assist learners with varied educational requirements under teacher supervision. These professionals facilitate constructive classroom behavior, execute tailored learning strategies, and provide personal assistance. The program also readies graduates to support individuals with special needs across various community environments including workplaces, homes, leisure activities, and healthcare institutions. Community support specialists focus on enhancing wellbeing, encouraging social integration, and supporting independent decision-making while helping develop practical skills for active community engagement.

Qualification Requirements

One of: B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent with an overall C average. Successful completion of at least nine university-level credits that are required by the School and Community Support Worker certificate program with a minimum GPA of 2.00. Prerequisites for CMNS 125 or ENGL 105. Demonstrated ability to work with people with diverse abilities is required. Evidence of this may include volunteer and/or paid work in classroom settings with children or in the community with children or adults. This is demonstrated through submission of the Additional Application Information Form (see below). TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) — IBT score of 88 with no section below 20, or paper-based score of 570 with a TWE (essay) score of 4.5 or higher. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic format — score of at least 6.5., with no band score less than 6.0. MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) — score of at least 85. CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) — score of at least 70.
