This 24-week course equips students with the essential skills to begin a career as a carpenter apprentice. Participants will gain hands-on experience while learning about safety protocols, building regulations, and the proper use of both manual and power tools. The curriculum includes indoor and outdoor projects, offering real-world practice in constructing, installing, maintaining, and repairing wooden structures and components made from various materials.
Upon completing the Foundation program, students will take the Carpentry Level 1 certification exam. Successful graduates earn credit toward their SkilledTradesBC Carpentry Level 1 apprenticeship and receive recognition for 450 hours of work experience.
Foundation programs help develop in-demand skills that employers value. To advance as an apprentice, participants must secure an employer sponsor and register with SkilledTradesBC. For those pursuing further career growth, KPU offers in-school technical training for Carpentry Apprenticeship levels 2 through 4.
