The UFV Bachelor of Arts program offers students the choice to pursue an Indigenous studies major or minor.
Courses are structured around four thematic areas to ensure comprehensive learning: Indigenous History, Social Relations and Governance, Land and Culture, and World View and Spirituality.
This program emphasizes Indigenous knowledge systems, contemporary Indigenous challenges, and decolonization processes, aiming to enhance relationships between Indigenous communities and settler societies while building new connections.
Students can enhance their educational experience through field trips, circle learning sessions, Elder interactions, Stó:lō cultural teachings, and guest lectures.
Indigenous Studies Major
To major in Indigenous Studies, students must complete 6 credits of Indigenous language courses and 14-16 credits in Indigenous Peoples' Knowledge (IPK).
Additional credits can be earned through diverse course offerings in IPK, history, political science, anthropology, sociology, geography, as well as practical courses in business, management, and communication.
In their fourth year, students may choose between completing a capstone project or undertaking two supervised field placements with Indigenous organizations.
