Within UFV's Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree options, students can choose Art History as either a minor or extended minor concentration.
Art history examines artistic creations and human expression across different eras. This discipline enhances observational skills while teaching methods for analyzing visual evidence in artworks, architectural structures, fashion trends, and design elements.
During introductory years, students explore diverse artistic creations spanning from prehistoric times to contemporary works, examining them within their historical and cultural frameworks.
Upper-level coursework focuses on significant historical periods including medieval times, Renaissance movements, wartime art before and after WWII, and modern creations. Students investigate subjects like the establishment of art institutions, theoretical approaches, religious influences in art, colonial impacts, and curatorial methods.
The program incorporates hands-on learning through visits to nearby exhibitions, with possibilities for educational trips to museums and galleries both locally and abroad.
