The Department of Botany stands as one of North America's most prominent plant science programs, with a heritage dating back to UBC's establishment in 1915. Our diverse community of over 260 members includes 40 full-time professors, various adjunct faculty and associates, approximately 100 graduate students, multiple postdoctoral researchers, technical staff, and administrative support personnel across herbarium, greenhouse, and workshop operations. Graduate candidates are encouraged to drive scientific innovation, participate in teaching and mentorship, and pursue careers across academic, corporate, governmental, and nonprofit sectors. The Botany Graduate Student Association maintains a vibrant presence through academic seminars, collaborative study groups, excursions, and social gatherings. Alumni from our program have secured distinguished positions at institutions worldwide, including Canada, the United States, and various European and Asian nations.

Research specializations span from genomic studies to ecological investigations of climate change effects on diverse ecosystems.
