The Master's programs cultivate an understanding of contemporary perspectives and methodologies in TESL education. The MA program focuses on research and requires completion of a thesis. Graduate students in TESL explore diverse areas including: modern TESL theories and practices, language acquisition, literacy development in second languages, cultural adaptation through language, identity formation through language, language evaluation techniques, linguistic analysis, critical language studies, and research methodologies. Faculty members specialize in TESL instruction, applied linguistics, critical language studies, communication analysis, cross-cultural interaction, language learning and cultural adaptation, subject-based language teaching, grammatical instruction, literacy development in additional languages, identity-related language aspects, educational linguistics, multilingual literacy practices, language governance, and English usage in immigrant and global contexts.
An approved Bachelor’s degree and, for K-12 teachers, one year of teacher education;* OR a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Education
