Psychology is a multifaceted field dedicated to studying the foundations of human behavior, cognition, and feelings. At UBC, psychology began as just one course in 1915, originally taught within the Philosophy Department. As time passed, both the curriculum and faculty expanded, leading to the establishment of the standalone Psychology Department in 1958.

Health psychology investigates the interplay between psychological, biological, and social factors in wellness and illness. This interdisciplinary area combines insights from psychology and medical science, employing diverse research techniques like controlled experiments, longitudinal daily monitoring, questionnaire studies, and therapeutic interventions.
