The Women and Children's Health Sciences graduate program aims to equip students with comprehensive research knowledge spanning biomedical, clinical, health services, and population studies. Participants will cultivate analytical abilities to autonomously create, conduct, and assess research projects focused on women's and children's health. Fundamental principles will cover biomedical and translational research with attention to health equity factors like social determinants, cultural awareness (including sex/gender perspectives and Indigenous health), along with diverse research approaches.
The Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Pediatrics Departments are jointly establishing an integrated graduate training initiative in Women and Children's Health Sciences (WACH). The program's definition of "Women" inclusively represents women, transgender, and non-binary communities.
This innovative WACH Program will provide advanced academic pathways for emerging researchers, including healthcare specialists, while delivering substantive clinical research training. These combined efforts will prepare scientists to collaboratively address contemporary professional demands. Our educational vision corresponds with the Faculty of Medicine's strategic education objectives: cultivating practitioners and researchers capable of effective teamwork in dynamic healthcare environments.
The interdisciplinary curriculum leverages expertise from Biomedical and Clinician-Scientists, whose work bridges laboratory, clinical, and population health research across fields like precision medicine. Additional key disciplines incorporate social sciences, data analytics, implementation science, biomedical engineering, and health economics, while innovating educational frameworks and program design.
