Welcome to the University of British Columbia's laboratory specializing in complex and non-Newtonian fluid dynamics. Our facility represents one of the Department's key focuses in applied mathematics, bridging disciplines from engineering to geoscience and biology while exploring fundamental fluid processes through mathematical analysis. Established in 2001 through generous support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation, UBC Blusson Fund, and BC Knowledge Development Fund, our lab conducts interdisciplinary fluid mechanics research. We investigate both theoretical foundations and industrially relevant applications, with particular emphasis on complex and non-Newtonian fluids. While physically located in the Mathematics Department, our collaborative network extends across Chemical and Biological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Earth Ocean Sciences departments, where additional facilities are available. The Mathematics lab serves as our hub for theoretical and computational studies, while also housing a fully equipped rheology lab and space for small-scale experiments. This facility officially commenced operations in October 2005.
