Algebraic and arithmetic geometry both focus on analyzing the solution sets of polynomial equation systems. While algebraic geometry mainly examines solutions within algebraically closed fields, arithmetic geometry investigates solutions in number fields or their integer rings—a more nuanced area of study. These disciplines form mathematical cornerstones, linking to diverse fields from Number Theory and cryptography to mirror symmetry. At SFU, our research spans a wide range, encompassing toric geometry, variety subspaces, modular curves, and hyperelliptic curve rational points.
