Our program immerses students in independent research while expanding their engagement with a chosen Geography specialization. Students may explore research topics across these key sub-disciplines: Biogeography, Climate Studies, Economic Geography, Environmental Sustainability, Gender Geography, GIS Technology, Landform Processes, Historical Geography, Water Systems and Glaciers, Indigenous Land Studies, Political Geography, Sociocultural Geography, and Metropolitan Studies.
The PhD curriculum offers adaptable, research-focused study guided by student interests. Candidates from diverse academic backgrounds work alongside leading experts in physical geography, human geography, and geospatial technologies. Graduates develop specialized knowledge for professional paths in higher education, public service, industry, or community organizations through their concentrated research focus.
