The Ph.D. program enables students to explore Cinema and Media Studies through a structured curriculum, comprehensive examinations, an oral defense, and an original dissertation. Participants focus on developing expertise in their selected specialization while gaining foundational knowledge in the theoretical, critical, and historical frameworks of their discipline.

Faculty research covers diverse areas including modern film and media culture, with emphasis on media theory, cult films, documentary research, silent cinema, gender studies in media, North American and European film traditions, television analysis, and audio studies. The program particularly excels in examining current English-language film and television within worldwide cultural contexts. Students sometimes collaborate with faculty and peers from our prestigious graduate programs in directing, design, and film production.

With an annual intake of just two students, we highly recommend that prospective applicants assess how well their research aligns with our faculty's established scholarship or ongoing investigations.
