Introduced in September 2013, the PhD program in Cinema Studies explores the evolving significance of visual media in worldwide cultural contexts. The curriculum examines both historical and contemporary forms of cinema through theoretical, textual, social, and historical frameworks. Core courses tackle enduring academic debates while investigating how the discipline responds to current interdisciplinary challenges and multimedia formats across different eras. The program consistently integrates historical perspectives with theoretical approaches, close textual examination, and cultural studies.
The Cinema Studies Institute provides graduate programs culminating in MA and PhD degrees. Faculty specialize in diverse fields such as film history, theoretical frameworks, analytical methods, and cultural applications of cinema. The one-year MA program, structured around coursework, allows students to choose between a professional internship or an extensive research project.
