This interdisciplinary program provides a robust grounding in mathematical concepts alongside core economic theories. You'll explore topics including microeconomic analysis, empirical economic research, differential calculus techniques, mathematical proof methodologies, and beyond.

Mathematics serves as a tool for uncovering and interpreting patterns - whether studying neural impulses in biological systems or analyzing volatility in financial markets. The ability to distill intricate scenarios through abstract thinking and logical reasoning represents a valuable skill for researchers across disciplines.

Both UBC's Economics School and Mathematics Department maintain exceptional global reputations. The Mathematics and Economics combined major can be pursued through either the Science Faculty for a BSc or the Arts Faculty for a BA, with both pathways offering extensive course selections in pure and applied mathematics. This represents one of numerous specialized options available, including honors programs, majors, combined majors, or minors that blend mathematical studies with other academic disciplines.

Career prospects
As a Mathematics and Economics scholar, you'll apply economic data, quantitative models, and statistical methods to hone your analytical and problem-solving capabilities. The capacity to examine connections between economic, cultural, and political factors - enabling you to predict trends, interpret policies, evaluate markets, and assess development - constitutes expertise highly sought after by employers across multiple sectors.
