Economics is a field of social science that examines specific aspects of human behavior and significantly impacts a society's framework, prosperity, and progress.
A substantial portion of human endeavors focuses on fulfilling material needs. Across much of the globe, people must dedicate most of their energy to securing fundamental necessities like food, clothing, and housing. Even in technologically developed nations where these basics are relatively easy to obtain, the craving for additional products and services seems never-ending. As a result, every society—whether capitalist, socialist, or communist in political structure—exhibits both competitive and collaborative traits. Competition arises as individuals vie to fulfill personal desires from finite resources, while cooperation emerges because optimal production occurs through coordinated efforts. Economics addresses challenges stemming from the tension between unlimited wants for goods and services and the scarcity of resources to meet them.
An undergraduate economics education aims to introduce students to economic reasoning and prepare them to critically evaluate modern economic issues. It also seeks to help students understand the essence of economic science and the evolving trends in economic theory.
