Gain expert acting instruction through UBC's prestigious BFA program. Your curriculum will cover narrative techniques, improv, scene analysis, physical expression, and vocal training, progressing to specialized instruction in on-camera performance, audition techniques, solo performance, musical theater, voice acting, and fight choreography.
The BFA Acting program provides rigorous professional training while establishing a strong foundation in theater history, complemented by broad liberal arts studies. The curriculum directly connects with UBC's theater productions, allowing you to collaborate on performances alongside faculty and industry professionals.
First year introduces university life while completing core Arts requirements and electives. Second year concentrates on honing fundamental acting skills through narrative work, improvisation, scene analysis, movement, and voice. Third year explores historical acting techniques including Commedia dell'arte, Chekhovian drama, and Shakespearean performance. Fourth year specializes in media acting, professional auditioning, solo performance development, musical theater, voice acting, and combat performance.
All coursework directly relates to UBC Theater productions, with students performing in shows guided by visiting artists and faculty who are active industry leaders in their fields.
Graduation from a university-preparatory program at a senior secondary school: Higher Secondary School Certificate awarded on completion of Standard XII. Certificates must be official. Photocopies are acceptable if certified by school principal, head, or counsellor. Notarized copies are not acceptable.
English Language Admission Standard: Canadian Academic English Language assessment - Overall 70; Cambridge English Qualifications – 180; UBC Certificate in English – 600; International English Language Testing System (Academic) - 6.5, with no part less than 6.0; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - Overall: 65, Reading: 60, Listening: 60, Writing: 60, Speaking: 60; Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based test - Overall: 90, Reading: 22, Listening: 22, Writing: 21, Speaking: 21.
