The thesis-focused MSc in Speech-Language Pathology equips clinicians with essential research capabilities to investigate the causes, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of communication and hearing impairments. Participants will conduct thesis projects to develop leadership competencies for academic, clinical, and research environments. The Department offers specialized labs, equipment, and clinical resources supporting diverse research areas including speech science, motor speech disorders, voice studies, language development, craniofacial abnormalities, hearing conditions, and clinical education. In their initial semester, MSc SLP candidates may opt for the thesis pathway. Thesis students complete identical coursework to their non-thesis counterparts, excluding CSD 900 (the research project course), instead registering for Thesis Research (THES 906).
Thesis candidates must complete at least one additional credit in research methodology and statistical analysis. Additional coursework will be tailored to individual needs, as determined by the advisor and thesis committee. Students will design and execute original research culminating in their thesis, adhering to FGSR guidelines regarding master's theses, including committee supervision and submission timelines.
Thesis track requirements mirror those of the course-based program in all academic and clinical aspects except the CSD 900 project. Students selecting the thesis option generally need at least one extra term to fulfill program requirements.
