The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences provides advanced degree programs for both Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy candidates. Students can pursue research in pharmaceutical science or pharmacy practice disciplines. Those interested in graduate studies should explore the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences website to examine available resources, faculty research specialties, and the comprehensive Graduate Studies Handbook with program specifics. An MSc requires at least six credit hours of graduate coursework, though supplementary classes may be necessary based on specialization, prior academic background, and advisor recommendations. Additionally, candidates must complete and defend a thesis. Full-time students must maintain residency for at least two four-month terms at the University of Alberta.

Qualification Requirements

The Faculty's minimum admission requirements are an undergraduate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution. The admission GPA will be calculated on the last 60 units of graded coursework completed, or on the equivalent of the last two years of full-time graded coursework.

Applicants should normally be graduates in pharmacy, however the Faculty will accept qualified applicants with degrees in related fields.
The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research recognizes the following five English language examinations:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the minimum acceptable score is 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or a total score of 88 with a score of at least 20 on each of the individual skill areas (Internet-based)
Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB), the minimum acceptable score of 85
International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS), a minimum overall band score of 6.5, with at least five on each test band
