The graduate program aims to cultivate scientists with expertise in pharmacology alongside a solid foundation in biochemistry, physiology, and molecular biology. Students learn scientific inquiry methods and research techniques while generating and sharing new scientific discoveries. This program provides driven, skilled students the chance to investigate various facets of molecular pharmacology and conduct research in cardiovascular, diabetes, and neuroscience areas. Our Department's research employs a comprehensive, multidisciplinary methodology, examining processes at molecular, cellular, organ, and whole-body scales. We study the biological mechanisms governing cellular and organ functions, as well as disease pathways, with the objective of identifying new targets for innovative treatment approaches.
The Department's minimum admission requirements are an undergraduate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.3 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution.
