The University of Alberta's Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute brings together over 170 neuroscientists spanning nearly 27 departments across eight faculties, two schools, and three colleges. Their graduate program provides comprehensive training in diverse experimental and theoretical neuroscience approaches while allowing students to focus on specialized research areas. Students benefit from collaborating with Institute members across university departments who specialize in neuroscience research. The program awards both PhD and MSc degrees through thesis-based research. First-year students without a master's degree begin in the MSc program, with the option to transition to the PhD program upon approval of their thesis proposal and successful completion of required courses.
