Psychology is a multifaceted field dedicated to studying the foundations of human behavior, mental processes, and feelings. At UBC, psychology began as just one course in 1915, originally taught within the Philosophy Department. As time passed, both the curriculum and faculty expanded, leading to the establishment of the standalone Psychology Department in 1958.
Behavioral neuroscience explores how the brain and nervous system influence actions. This research area covers subjects like genetic influences on behavior, neuroendocrine systems, drug effects on psychology, judgment processes, self-control, thinking abilities, brain adaptability, and the biological roots of mental and neurological conditions.
